EARLY LIFE

Harvey Eugene Whitacre was born on October 6th, 1926 to Harvey and Eva Whitacre in Howard County, Indiana. (He went by Gene) Both parents were in their 40s when he was born. His father was a farmer and his mother, Like many of her generation was a housekeeper. The Whitacre's had a large family consisting of 7 boys and 4 girls. Gene graduated from Kokomo High School in 1944. After schooling Gene worked at the Kokomo Tribune as an apprentice to his brother Ben in the composing room for 18 months. In November of 1945 Gene registered for the Army, And within 2 years was stationed at the Top Secret Sandia Base in Albuquerque, NM that was run by the the United States Department of Defense. The base was not only the principal Nuclear Weapons Research Center at the time. It also played a major role in the country's nuclear deterrence capabilities for years after its creation in 1946. In 1971 the base merged with Kirtland AFB.

DETAILS OF DISAPPEARANCE

Corporal Gene Whitacre was on a 24hr leave from Sandia Base where he was stationed in Albuquerque,NM on 6/30/1947. Corporal Whitacre was the treasurer of a league that was bowling at an alley on the outskirts of Albuquerque the night he disappeared. Since he was treasurer of the league, It is reported that he was carrying around $500 in cash the night he disappeared. One July 3rd his blood stained shirt, hat and his prescription glasses were found in an alley a few streets over from the bowling alley. It was reported that Gene was practically blind without his glasses. The shirt appeared to have 2 tears in the back that are consistent with stab wounds. Since Gene wasn't stationed at an ordinary armed forces base, and all officers (and non officers) had to be accounted for at all times. They immediately took notice of his absence and declared him AWOL. Local Law Enforcement and well as the FBI was notified and an investigation was underway. The Federal Government was obviously concerned as his absence could be interpreted as a possible security breach that could have an impact on national defense. However, the investigation soon went from one of a possible security breach, To a probable robbery based on evidence and the amount of cash he was carrying at the time. Other than his shirt, hat and glasses, nothing of any value was ever recovered. The case soon went cold. No suspects were ever hinted at or publicly named. He was eventually declared deceased in 1954 and his brother (and former coworker at the Kokomo Tribune) took over his estate since Gene was not married. (No kids)

Analysis

It's easy to try and make a spy case out of this. Or even a conspiratorial one. Gene worked at a Top Secret installation and was likely privy to classified information. Whether that information was of any significance at a national level is anyone's guess. The official government position was his clearance didn't give him access to anything that would damage national security. But anyone with half a brain knows that even if it did, The government wouldn't admit to it then or now. I have read online that his family's phones were bugged for years afterwards by the F.B.I. Not sure how they would know that. But if that were true, That kind of a reaction makes you wonder what kind (If any) damaging information he had at his disposal. Although, One could also look at it as the government just covering their bases. If you look at everything in a logical fashion. The government's position (As well as local LE's) on Gene's disappearance was probably the correct analysis to make based upon the facts. There is no reason to think Gene was a spy of any sort. The fact that his shirt, hat, and glasses were found validates the analysis more than anything else. Yes, One could speculate that those were left behind to make it seem as tho there was a robbery. A good way for a spy to to fool the government into thinking he is dead. But that's what they do in the movies. Not in real life. No spy ever wants to leave a trail of evidence behind. That is just asking to get caught. Not to mention very foolish. However, One could also speculate Gene could've met with someone he was passing information to. And that something occurred during the transaction and he was killed as a result. But again, Why would they leave evidence behind? Again, That would be foolish. You're just asking to get caught doing that. I think it is more likely that robbery was the motive. Could it have been one of the people in the league? You can't count anything out. But remember this occurred at a bowling alley. Many people were there. It wouldn't be hard for a person (Or a few) to notice Gene collecting cash for his league and simply keep their eyes on him. The interesting thing to me is how the culprit(s) could get him away from the others in the league. Maybe he stayed after the league was done bowling? Maybe they got to him when he was walking to his car? It is logical to presume they went to the same bowling alley for league. Maybe Gene had a routine of staying for a period of time afterwards? It's easy to go down a rabbit hole just thinking about it. The fact of the matter is whoever is responsible did indeed get Gene alone. (Presumably alone) Or at least in a vulnerable position. My opinion based on all that is known is that Gene was robbed and killed for the money he had in his possession. Whether it was someone he knew or didn't know really doesn't matter at this point. Odds are they are long gone at this point. I felt it was important to write this entry because this man needs remembered as a good young man. A PATRIOT who died way too young at the hands of scum. I don't believe there is any conspiracy here. I did find an interesting article regarding the base dated August 26th of 1947. A little over a month after Gene went missing. You'll find it at the bottom of the entry.
One more thing, Some of you may notice the site changing a lot in the next few weeks. And that is because I finally got myself someone who knows what the hell they are doing with web site designing. Her name is Felicity and she is truly a god send. So she is gonna be undoing all the bullshit I've done over the years and try and make the site more presentable.

I need to apologize for the length of time it has taken me to be able to do this entry. Ervin's nephew Jacob contacted me in September. And I have been so behind I haven't been able to get it done until now. I will say that Ervin NEVER left my mind. Not once did I forget about writing about him. Right below this is a news story regarding Ervin done in 2012. Hilarious! You can also read about the story here and here.

Shurlock

Just wanted to say that Ervin is from a different generation. Entirely different breed of a man. He didn't play around with the intruder. And he was a lot nicer than I would've been. A lot struck me about Ervin's character here. He didn't wanna hurt the guy who was pointing a gun at him in his own home. So he disarmed him and then he was STILL nice enough to look around his house in case the man was right. Which he wasn't. These types of men are what society needs more of. They didn't need their pussy ass safe spaces. They didn't cry and complain about discrimination or other social bullshit. They just worked and lived. He reminds me of my late grandfather. My late grandfather came home from a chemo treatment and mowed his own lawn. Anyways, This guy is more of a bad ass than anyone you'll see on TV or in the movies nowadays. Ok, End of rant.

Date Of Birth: June 19th, 1933
Missing Since: November 6, 2015
Missing From: Alvin, Texas
Last Seen: Looking confused and walking down Highway 517
Height & Weight: 6'0 165lbs
Hair & Eyes: Gray Hair & Brown Eyes
Wearing: Tan Pants & Blue & Red Plaid Shirt, White & Red Shoes OR Blue & Red Sneakers
Other: Has Alzheimer's & Heart Condition. Needs Daily Medication for both. Missing all of his toes on his left foot. (Has trouble walking as a result) Deep Scar on Upper Left Arm (Bicep), Right Handed, Gray Beard & Mustache when last seen. Ervin is an Honorary Member of the Rodeo Hall Of Fame.

 Circumstances of Disappearance

"It's just a terrible disease, Alzheimer's. He takes medication for that also, but he hasn't had that since Friday. The longer he's without his medication, it doesn't do any good. It wears off sooner or later," said Mark Brittnacher.

November 5th 2015

Ervin's son Mark went over to his dad's house on the 3000 Block of McFarland Rd in League City at around noon that day to make sure his dad took his medicine. Upon arriving Mark found his dad's dog locked in the house. And there was no sign of Ervin anywhere. Mark searched the farm for 30 minutes before calling the police. It is believed he may have walked away from his home in a confused state. When his dog was let out it ran to the end of the driveway and stopped. It's likely that was the last place the dog saw him. He didn't drive away because his truck was still in the driveway. And he didn't appear to have taken anything with him. Nor was anything taken from the home. If he did leave on foot. He couldn't have gone a considerable distance in a short period as he walked with a limp. Multiple searches of the area proved unsuccessful. Some websites state he was actually seen walking down Highway 517. I don't have a time or date on any sighting(s) Some sites even claim he was abducted.

Views of the Area

Analysis

Missing People In America did a really good video above. I got a good amount of information from it. Their conclusion was that the guy who broke into his house 3 years prior likely had something to do with it. And I disagree. The guy didn't show any ill will toward Ervin after he disarmed him. Nor is there anything that I've read that leads me to believe he harbored a grudge against him afterwards. There was no sign of a struggle at his house. Nothing was taken. The guy was high on bath salts when he attempted to burglarize the house. It wasn't like he was trying to hurt Ervin. Unless I hear something to the contrary. It makes little sense to me. I intentionally left the person's name out of the entry because quite frankly he is a piece of shit and I didn't want to acknowledge him. I know that the area has been searched numerous times by The Family, Law Enforcement, and by Texas Equusearch. But past experience in cases tells me he is still in the area. I thought of the Johnathan Lee Hamilton case when looking into this one. I said he was still in the area. And he ended up being found in Bastrop years later. Johnathan ended up going Missing in 2015. Just like Ervin did. Both have (had) conditions that required medication. I honestly hope that this case turns out better. I asked his nephew if he knew anything more about the supposed sightings of him walking down the highway and he said he didn't. He wasn't told if it was more than one person who thought they saw him. Or what direction he was walking. Without knowing more about those there isn't much you can draw from them. In all honesty, It's extremely hard to fathom a positive outcome in this case other than him being found.

Before I begin the entry I just wanted to say that I relied heavily on my good friend Andrea'a research from WhereaboutsStillUnknown regarding this case. Her entry is under the links section of this post. I also wanna thank another friend Yusra, For suggesting this case as well as becoming my first Patron on Patreon. Both know this case better than anyone. I dedicated "What A Fool Believes" by The Doobie Brothers to this entry. Also I spent many hours attempting to track down articles related to JUST Diane's disappearance. And there aren't many at all. Most of all the articles I found dealt with authorities trying to tie her to Princess Doe. And it turned out not to be Diane. As a result of the 2 cases being tied together (regardless of whether or not it was accurate) I added some information regarding Princess Doe at the bottom of the entry. Also, This is clearly a case of San Jose Police dropping the ball here. She was reported as a runaway. And her case wasn't investigated as a Missing Person until NJ PD tried connecting Diane to the Princess Doe case many years later. If NJ State Police hadn't tried connecting Diane's case to Princess Doe's, Diane's case might be one of the many forgotten missing persons cases.

Details Of Disappearance

Diane was living with her mother Patricia and brother Dean in a house in San Jose, California just prior to her disappearance. According to a friend who was close to Diane, She was having issues coping with her parent's recent divorce. She wasn't able to see her dad as often as she would like. And to make things worse her mother worked long hours at a winery and wasn't home very often. As a result Diane started acting rebellious. According to her close friend Natja Kristy, She began smoking cigarettes, marijuana and began skipping school. According to Natja on the day of her disappearance he was at her house (He stated he was practically living with the Dye's during the time in question) when he heard her outside crying on the porch. She was upset that her mother wouldn't let her hang around people who were bad influences on her. She told him that she had planned to run away. Natja is on record stating he tried talking her out of it. And he thought he had. At some point she told him to leave her alone. And he did. That was the last time he saw her. I would also like to point out that Diane's brother Dean also stated she told him she was running away as well.  According to Andrea's entry there were a few sightings of Diane after she was last seen by her family. One by a neighbor who saw her with a blonde haired girl. She was in her neighborhood at the time. The blonde haired girl has never been identified. The neighbor who reported the sighting stated he did report it to the police. Another was apparently at a Jack in the Box near Diane's home. This lead was provided by a member of Diane's family. It's possible that the sighting of Diane with the blonde girl and the one at Jack in the Box were the same lead. Another supposed sighting occurred in December of 1981 in Daly City, California. A former classmate stated he saw Diane at the Serramonte Mall. He did converse with her and he stated she explained that she didn't want to go back home. I would like to note all 3 (or 2) of these sightings were unconfirmed.

Douglas Arnold Young

I was told by Natja that Doug Young was a friend, As well as one of those bad influences that Diane's mother didn't want her around. He was apparently borderline obsessed/infatuated with her. I was told that BOTH Diane's brother Dean, As well as Natja tried keeping Diane away from Doug Young. I would like to point out that Doug Young's Parents lived next door to Diane at the time in question. So Doug was familiar with the neighborhood as well as the young people in the area. Doug was on probation at the time Diane went missing. And he was living in the Morgan Hill area with his Probation Officer Jerry Johnson. At some point around the time Diane went missing. Doug committed a burglary at a home nearby in Morgan Hill. The exact date is unknown. He committed the burglary when his Probation Officer was out. When the Probation Officer returned he took note of the items in Doug's possession. And realized they matched the items stolen in the burglary. His probation officer turned him in and he was arrested. Young was eventually released again. And surprise, He committed another crime. Young along with a friend stole a car and went around joy riding. He was eventually picked up for that as well. From what I have seen the guy has a record that could easily reach to the moon and back. Roughly 4 years after Diane went missing in 1983, Young bludgeoned a 74 year old man to death with a hammer while his granddaughter was asleep upstairs. To make the situation worse, Young was staying at the man's house. Adrian Hodges, The man Young killed was counseling him at the time. The reason for the killing was that Hodges wouldn't let Young borrow his car. As a result of this Young is currently serving life without the possibility of parole in Mule Creek State Prison in Lone, California. I was told NJ State Police questioned Doug regarding Diane's disappearance when they thought Princess Doe could have been Diane. (Princess Doe was later ruled out by Dental Records and DNA) I was told he gave 2 different stories. In one, He picked her and her friend up when they were both hitchhiking in the state of Washington. He said he eventually dropped both of them off. In another version he picked her up a few days after she went missing in California when he was at a gas station. He later said something to the effect that she might have been pregnant. And that he dropped her off somewhere in California. I am unaware of anything other than that however. I will be able to expand on those stories later on down the road. I don't have a lot of information at this time regarding that aspect of the case. Just to give you a little more insight on how much of a piece of shit Doug Young is, Natja relayed to me a story regarding Young explaining the meaning of a Satan tattoo he has on his arm. The tattoo reads "SATAN'S D.A.Y." Young explained that he was the "Devil's Child" and he was on this earth to do his work. The D.A.Y. part stands for his initials, Doug Arnold Young. (Real "tough guy" here. I mean, When he has a Hammer and the the victim is an old man. Then yeah, He is a real "tough guy")
Doug wins the award as the goofiest looking killer I've ever seen. If that guy threatened me. I'd laugh myself unconscious.

Patricia Dye in 1985 raising awareness of about missing daughter

Analysis

Like I said in the beginning of the entry. San Jose PD dropped the ball here. They wrote her off as a runaway and was done with it. Had it not been for NJ PD many people would not know about this case. As a result, There just isn't enough data to formulate any kind of solid hypothesis. Granted, Young looks like a good candidate for this. He knew Diane, He is a violent individual and even admitted to having picked her up. Albeit in 2 different variations of seemingly the same story. Can we believe either? Offenders often tell tales in order to get something in return. But as far as I can ascertain, Young was not posturing himself towards anything in particular. Granted I do not have much info regarding the interviews at this time. That will change however. I have filled out the paperwork needed to expand my knowledge on this case. So look for updates in the future.   One thing we are sure of is Diane planned to run away. She told both Natja and her brother Dean that much. So it's likely that she initially left voluntarily and something occurred afterwards. I say that simply because I do not believe she would stay away this entire time and not reach out to anyone. This has devastated not only her family. But her friend Natja as well. Her mom passed away without knowing what happened to her daughter. Her brother has never recovered from her disappearance. And neither has her dad or Natja. From what I've been told, Diane was in a rebellious phase. But according to everyone I have spoken to she was sweet and kindhearted person. I don't think she would intentionally hurt anyone. Personally, I believe there was a crime committed after Diane ran away. I do not believe Diane is still alive. After coming to that realization I had to start from Diane's inner circle and work my way out. There is absolutely no motive for any family members to do any harm to Diane. It makes zero sense. No motive. That goes for Natja as well. When I conversed with him this even has taken a tremendous toll on his soul. He wears a bracelet with Diane's name on it everyday. The only other person that I've heard that could have possibly had something to do with it was a man named Henry Lee Lucas. I was told that he confessed to killing Diane. Lucas was one of the biggest pieces of shit mankind has ever seen. He was a shit stain on society. I'm glad he is dead. Lucas was known for confessing to murders he didn't commit. He can't be placed in the area. And frankly the shit stain can't be taken seriously as a suspect. Speaking of shit stains, Back to Doug Young. All avenues at this point lead to him. And I believe he is the logical start. However with the amount of civil unrest in the country at the moment. Getting a few bozos from San Jose to travel roughly 112 miles northeast to Lone probably takes an act of congress. Not to mention they have never done a damn thing with the case to begin with. I doubt they will start now. There will be an update to this entry. I am unsure when that will be. But there will be an update.
