The Abduction & Disappearance Of

Anne Denise Victoria Manchester

I chose the disappearance of Anne Denise Victoria Manchester because I had a request via email and I was taken aback by who it was. I do wanna say to the person who sent me the information, And you know who you are. I appreciate the confidence you have in me. I will say this also. Sometimes effort, hard work, and determination matter to people who you never knew were paying attention. I am humbled. I will say that I have been given certain documents related to the case. In regards to the entry, I did go heavy on the family information for Anne in this entry. I find that by doing it that way, We make the victim more human. We can tell their story instead of just the tragedy that seemingly defined their life. I dedicated Funkytown by Lipps, Inc. which was one of the, If not, the most popular song at the time of Anne's disappearance. Here we go....

College and Life As A Young Adult:
1974-1980

"I wouldn't say Anne was shy. She just channeled her energies, and didn't want to spend a lot of them on social time."

Jeanne Remedio

Philadelphia Enquirer

7/20/1980

Like all young men and women do, Anne eventually ventured out on her own to create a new life. She moved into her own one bedroom apartment at the Villa Belmont located at 76 Welsh Tract Rd in Newark. Anne also  graduated from Allegheny College in 1976 where she majored in economics. Anne actually spent the 74-75 academic year studying at the Institute Of American Universities in Aix-en Provence in France. The Institute Of American Universities is an Institution for Higher Learning. Although the exact date is unknown, We do know that Anne took a job as a secretary for the Phoenix Steel Corporation in Claymont, Delaware sometime after her graduation in 1976.

Note: When Anne lived at The Villa Belmont. They were Apartments. 4 years after her disappearance they were converted into Condos in 1984.

Anne's Former Employer before it was torn down: 6 Years After Anne's Disappearance, Phoenix Steel went into bankruptcy and was purchased by Claymont Steel. Evraz then purchased Claymont Steel in 2007. Then ceased operations altogether in 2014

Anne worked for Phoenix Steel up until February of 1979 when she quit her job to pursue her MBA and attend classes full time at the University Of Delaware. The University of Delaware likely started their classes in late August or early September of 1979. Earlier that year, In or around January or February of 1979. Anne began a relationship with a married man. The man's name is Bernard "Bernie" Francis Tandarich who was 39 years old at the time. Anne was 25. That made Tandarich 14 years her senior.

(Side Note: It is unclear at this time how and when Anne and Tandarich met. They both worked in the Steel Industry. But they worked for different companies. (competitors) This is information I am attempting to track down. One article in there later years erroneously states that Tandarich worked for the Claymont Factory. That is incorrect. Also, As of this writing, Tandarich is alive and still living in the Coatesville area with his wife Sharon. I have reached out to him. I am awaiting a response at this time. But based on what I have been told. I won't hold my breath)

The Evening
Standard
6/13/1962

Bernard Tandarich worked for the Lukens Steel Company,  which was located at 50 South First Avenue in Coatesville, PA. (The company is no longer in operation but the buildings are still there.) Anne's parents were made aware of their daughter's relationship with Tandarich sometime in January of 1980. And they advised Anne that they disapproved. By the time she notified her parents, The two had been seeing each other for around a year or so.....

Who is Bernard Tandarich you ask? Let's find out:

Bernard Francis Tandarich was born on August 3rd 1940 to George M. Tandarich and Mary D. Tandarich. Bernard attended Uniontown High School in Uniontown, Pennsylvania graduating in 1958. While in High School Bernard was active in the National Honors Society, The Student Council, and Drama. He went on to attend Pennsylvania State University and graduate with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Metallurgy in June of 1962. After graduation, Tandarich began his employment with the Lukens Steel Company. In September of 1962 Tandarich married Florence Helen Harden. And in November of that same year Tandarich was promoted to a Supervisory Position within the company. Tandarich continued his employment with Lukens throughout the 60's and 70's and into the 80's. I do not know when it ended. Tandarich also added 3 more kids to his family over that period of time. I would say it's likely Tandarich and his wife were probably separated at the time he became involved with Anne. Or at least the marriage was on the rocks. I say this because during the time he was involved with Anne, Tandarich was renting his own apartment located at 313 South Broad St. in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. (Per Police Report) At some point Tandarich ends up getting divorced from Florence. (When that happened is unclear. I didn't spend much time on it.)

(Side Note: This is unrelated. But I like to be thorough, And I like details even if they are seemingly unrelated to the case.  Tandarich's son's name is Mark Edward Tandarich. Tandarich also has a brother by the name of Regis. Tandarich eventually remarries a woman by the name of Sharon)

Romance Cooling:
January 1980-June 18th 1980

By the time Anne had notified her parents of her relationship with Tandarich in January of 1980, I think it's safe to assume the romance had been over. Or at least cooling for some time. According to her parents, Anne had tried several times to break it off with Tandarich, But found it difficult because she felt sorry for him. Then came the day of June 18th 1980....

The Attempted Patch Up:
Wednesday, June 18th 1980

"If I can't have you, No one else will!"
Bernard Tandarich to Anne on
June 18th 1980

This story was told to Law Enforcement by Anne's Father, Andrew when he filed the initial Missing Persons report on his daughter on July 9th 1980. There is a reason I point this out. As you will soon read.

According to Anne, Tandarich came by her apartment to see if they could patch things up. He took Anne for a ride that ended up near a vacant area in Coatesville. He pointed to the vacant lot and said that was where he would build the two of them a house. At some point Anne again tried to break it off with Tandarich. She told him she wanted to "see other boys". This apparently made him jealous with rage. He then proceeded to grab Anne by the throat in what was described as a choking fashion. He then told her, If he couldn't have her. No one else would He only stopped when Anne told him she was "just kidding". Tandarich then drove Anne back home. I think it's safe to say that at that point, There was no coming back from that. If it hadn't already been, It was now over for good.

Tim Lander & The Party-
Saturday, June 28th 1980:
On the night of June 28th 1980, 26 Year Old Richard Bankson Lander, Who went by "Tim", picked up Anne at her residence in order for them to attend a party in Philadelphia. The party was possibly hosted by a woman by the name of Phyllis Hoffman. However, I am unsure of this at the moment. I'm basing this on the terminology typed on the Police Report. If Phyllis didn't host it. She was definitely there. According to the report, as well as Phyllis, Anne and Tim stayed at the party until the early morning hours of the 29th when they both left at approximately 4:00 a.m. to head back to her place. Here's a little more info on Tim Lander....

I have reached out to attempt to contact Tim. Awaiting a response.
Source: Ancestry

Richard Bankson Lander, Who went by "Tim" was born on December 4th 1953 to Richard Ernest Lander and Patricia Riter Lander. At the time of his involvement with Anne, Tim was working for the Girard Bank in Philadelphia. It's worth noting that he was NOT a fellow classmate of Anne. So how they became acquainted with her is something I am unsure about. But seeing as though they were the same age at the time. It could be something as simple as a friends circle. Or Anne could've been a customer at the bank. Another aspect of interest is Tim was apparently aware of the issues Anne was having with Tandarich. Tim was even aware that she was supposed to meet him on the 29th at 3:00 p.m. Which was the same day they returned from the party in Philadelphia. According to Tim, Anne was "dreading" their meeting. I provided additional information on Lander ONLY because he was the last person to have seen Anne alive. I am told Tim had an airtight alibi that was verified and he was NEVER considered a suspect. I want to stress that.

Note: The reason for the meeting is open to conjecture. I tend to believe Tandarich was coming to get some of his things he had left over at Anne's Apartment. Or he was coming over to return something of Anne's. Other than that. I do not know of any reason as to why they would need to see each other again.

Villa Belmont Apartments-
The Day Of Anne's Disappearance:
Sunday, June 29th 1980

At around 4:00 am Anne and Tim headed back to Anne's residence at the Villa Belmont Apartments. He stayed with Anne at her place until the beginning of the day. She cooked him pancakes and Tim left at around 12:30 pm.
Note: In the News Journal for July 16th 1980 Tim is mentioned as an "unnamed friend" who is "not a student". However, The Police Report mentions his name.

At around 2:00 p.m. that day, Anne received a call from a friend. (I don't have a name. Likely a classmate. Possibly Phyllis. But unsure at this time.) According to the friend, Her and Anne discussed information regarding school activities. The call was brief. Anne's friend didn't mention anything out of the ordinary. This was the last time anyone heard from Anne.....

What Happened To Anne?
June 30th-July 9th 1980:

"Looks like she went to take out the trash

and never came back"

Detective Ron Watson

The Philadelphia Enquirer

July 20th 1980

Anne's Parents had been on vacation and returned home on the 8th of July. They tried calling their daughter but got no answer. They again attempted to call on the morning of the 9th, numerous times and continued to get no answer. They weren't the only ones attempting to contact Anne. According to the police report, Tim Lander also made several attempts to contact Anne by phone and got no answer. After getting no answer from their repeated calls, Her parents finally decided to drive over to Anne's and find out what had become of their daughter. Upon pulling up at the complex located at 76 Welsh Tract Road they noticed Anne's Blue Honda was parked outside. Assuming she was probably home they proceeded up to the 3rd Floor and right up to the door of the apartment. When they turned the knob on the door they discovered it was unlocked. Upon entering the apartment they discovered all of Anne's possessions were in their normal place. Anne was a very meticulous and tidy person. She kept her apartment spotless. Anne's school text books were stacked on a table in the dining room. Her cigarettes w/lighter and a glass of diet soda were next to them. Anne's sandals were underneath the same table. There were no signs of a struggle inside the apartment. Nothing was out of order. But Anne was nowhere to be found. Anne's parents quickly discounted the idea she went for a walk or went out running. Anne was described as a "car person". She didn't walk anywhere and she definitely didn't go running.

The more the two of them combed the apartment the more concerned they became. Both sets of Anne's keys were there. Along with her purse, money, and her check books. Anne's father Andrew's first thought was one person. Bernard Tandarich. Andrew called Tandarich and asked him what he had done with his daughter. Tandarich claimed that he hadn't done anything with Anne and he hadn't seen her in approximately 10 days. Andrew who was likely frustrated and concerned at this point, hung up and called Law Enforcement to file a missing persons report on his now missing daughter.

Note: I need to point out there is no exact time as to when Anne's parents arrived at the Apartment. Nor is there an exact time listed on the Police Report as to when it was taken. All it reads is July 9th. However, They do report a time they interviewed Tandarich on the same day. That being 2:30 pm. So it's safe to assume her parents arrived there sometime in the morning. That is the best I've been able to do in narrowing down the timeline.

Law Enforcement Arrive At The Scene-
The Police Report:

"She had worked too hard for that MBA to just walk off. None of it makes any sense."

Andrew Manchester

The Philadelphia Enquirer

July 20th 1980

Sgt. Calvin Krammes Jr. soon arrived on the scene and began taking information for Anne's missing person report. I have transcribed the statements from the interviews in the report below.

Initial Statement by Andrew to the Reporting Officer-

On Wednesday July 9, 1980 Andrew Manchester contacted this department to report that his daughter had disappeared and he and his wife have not heard from her in 10 days. Mr. Manchester stated that when they arrived at his daughter's apartment (#9) they found the door closed but unlocked and all her possessions (wallet, purse, keys, car keys) right there which is not consistent with her behavior.

Interview of Andrew H Manchester-

Same stated that he and his wife had returned from vacation on July 8th and had called their daughter but were unable to contact her. They decided to go to her apartment in hopes of seeing her. When they arrived they found the door unlocked and their daughter's purse on the couch that contained her wallet, car keys, apartment keys, check book, money, etc. They feel that something has happened to her and they feel that her boyfriend Bernie Tandarich was responsible for their daughter's disappearance. Mr. Manchester said he had called Tandarich and asked him where his daughter and Tandarich replied that he had not seen seen her for approximately 10 days. The parents stated that their daughter had first told them in January that she was seeing a married man with four children. (Tandarich) They objected to her seeing this man and they also advised that their daughter had attempted to break it off with him but found it difficult to do because she felt sorry for him. It was ascertained that he did come to her apartment on or about the 18 June to see if he could patch up their differences. They went for a ride in his vehicle, driving to an area near Coatesville, PA. , where he told her that he was going to build their home. During this conversation she told him that she was going to start dating other boys. He then grabbed her around her neck in a choking fashion and stated that if he couldn't have her no one could. She then related that she was only kidding and he drove her back to her apartment. The parents said their daughter had attended a party in Pennsylvania with a person they knew only as Tim (Richard B Lander) who works at Girard Bank in Philadelphia in the computer section. They related that he was probably one of the last persons to see Anne.

The Investigation Begins:

"We'd like to beg the person who abducted Anne to please have pity on us and let her go."

Anne's Father

Andrew H. Manchester

The News Journal:

July 16th 1980

At this point Law Enforcement had a few leads and they attempted to chase them down as quickly as they could. It's well known that the first 48 hours are the most important in any investigation of this nature. However, They were at a 9 and a half day disadvantage. The clock was ticking and they needed to find out what happened to Anne as quickly as they could. Law Enforcement quickly mobilized and began an immediate search around the complex. Nothing was found. Then they sought out Tandarich for questioning. They found him at his place of employment, Lukens Steel. They started the interview at 2:30 p.m. on July 9th 1980. The same day Anne was reported missing. The interview is as transcribed below.

Interview of Bernie F. Tandarich

313 South Broad Street, Kennett Square, PA,

Tandarich was interviewed at Lukens Steel at Coatsville, PA

by Sgt. Krammes and Inv. Armitage

on 9 June 1980 at 1430 hours.

Same admitted to seeing #1 for approximately 1 1/2 years. He stated he had a key to her apartment and also left some of his personal effects there which he picked up when he realized his romance with her was over. He also admitted that he had been to the apartment on Wednesday 18 June 1980 and had gone for a ride with her to a vacant area near Coatesville where he told her that if he couldn't have her no one else will. He stated he meant no harm, only that he was jealous of anyone that she was seeing. He stated that when he took her home they agreed not to see each other but that they would talk to each other by phone. He related that he was to meet with her on the 29th of June. On this particular day he left his apartment to be with his family and stayed there until approx. 3:15 p.m. he then drove to his apartment on Kennett Square to wait for a phone call from #1 which he did not receive. He then went back to his home in Chadds Ford to spend some more time with his children. He stayed there until approximately 7:00 or 8:00 pm and from there went to his mother's and from there went back to his apartment. He then returned to work at Lukens Steel at approximately 10:15 pm because they were starting up one of the furnaces at 11:00 p.m. Tandarich said he was concerned with #1 and would help in any way to locate her.

You notice how Tandarich left out how he grabbed Anne by the neck? He also said he never went by Anne's apartment on the 29th. Only that he waited for Anne's call. He did admit to having a key to Anne's Apartment. Which could be another reason for his scheduled visit to her Apartment on June 29th. Also, Tandarich claims to have already retrieved his possession by the time they interviewed him. So why would he need to see Anne again?

The next interview listed on the report was with Tim Lander. And as with the initial interview with Anne's dad. No time is given as to when they conducted this interview. I would assume it was the same day but I cannot say for sure. It makes sense they did it on the same day as time was of the essence.

Interview Of Richard Bankson Lander

Contact Of Richard Bankson Lander (Tim)- This person was contacted by public service at the Girard Bank, Philadelphia.

He related that on Saturday, 28 June 1980 he drove to Newark and met #1 and they left the apartment and drove to a party in Philadelphia. They left the party the morning of the 29th and arrived back in Newark at about 4:30 a.m. He stayed there until noon, She made him breakfast (pancakes) and he drove back to his apartment in Pennsylvania. He related that he, too, was concerned about her disappearance and had attempted to call her on several occasions but to no avail . He said that #1 was to meet Bernard Tandarich on Sunday June 29th at 3:00 p.m. and that she dreaded the meeting.

The Philadelphia Enquirer for July 20th 1980 states that Lander had been very cooperative with the investigation.

The next interview on the report is with a neighbor and classmate of Anne's. A man by the name of Frank Crotzer. He added a detail on Anne's planned meeting with Tandarich. Again no time or date was given for this interview.

Interview of Frank Crotzer
Bldg. 76, Apt. 210,

Crotzer related that he was a friend of #1's and he was concerned because he hadn't seen her for approx. two weeks. He said that he knew her through classes are the University of Delaware and occasionally going to the swimming pool at the apartment. He also said that #1 told him that she was to meet with Bernie on Sunday the 29th at 3:00 p.m. and that she dreaded meeting with him. She told Crotzer she would only talk with him in the parking lot or on the balcony of the apartment. Crotzer was unable to say if Tandarich had come to the apartment to meet with #1.

Anne was to meet with Tandarich either in the parking lot or on the balcony. This is why I believe Tandarich had some personal belongings over at Anne's. Otherwise there would be no point in him coming over. He already tried patching things up and it didn't work. They were obviously done.

The next interview is with Phyllis Hoffman who I mentioned earlier.

Contact of Phyliss Hoffman

Ms. Hoffman stated when contacted by public service that she, too, has been attempting to contact #1 but no one had answered at her apartment. She related that #1 and a boy by the name of Tim were at the party and left about 4:00 a.m. to return home. She has not heard or seen #1 since then and she is concerned.

The final interview transcribed below is one with Tandarich's landlord.

Interview with Mrs. Curtin:

313 South Broad Street, Kennett Square, PA-

Mrs. Curtin owns the apartment Tandarich rents. She related that he lived there by himself and does not have any lady friends who visit his apartment. She said that the only one who comes there is his son.

The On-Going Investigation:

"Everyone here remembers what she looks like, But she didn't seem to have any really close friends. She was a very quiet girl."

Vicki Meyer

Senior Secretary

MBA Program

Philadelphia Enquirer

7/20/1980

On July 10th Law Enforcement secured Anne's apartment. They changed the locks on the apartment door and began branching out to Anne's other friends. However, None of the leads seemed to pan out. They even brought in a "psychic" at one point. She stated that Anne was killed and buried in a nearby wooded area. That proved to be false. Leads soon dried up. Law Enforcement interviewed friends, acquaintances and classmates of Anne. None of them gave them any indication she had any instability. By July 22nd Law Enforcement admitted they had no new leads in Anne's case and urged anyone with information to Anne's possible whereabouts to call in with tips.

Additional Bullet Points:

These Bullet Points are facts presented throughout various articles that feature Anne's case. All of which are at the bottom of this entry.

  • Anne had recently turned 26 on June 10th. 18 days later she would seemingly vanish.
  • After quitting her job at Phoenix Steel, Anne remained unemployed. According to her friend Jeanne Remedio "She was intent upon finishing it, She wasn't looking for a job because she wanted to concentrate on finishing the courses. But I know she was interested in international economics and financial analysis." (Philadelphia Enquirer: 7/20/1980)
  • Anne took 15 credits during the winter term when the average student usually took just 12. She was also taking 2 courses in the June 2nd to July 22nd Summer Session when students usually take only one. Anne took 5 courses for 15 credits and she received 4 As and one B. It's safe to say that Anne was driven and extremely focused.
  • Anne was scheduled to take an important exam the next day. And she missed it.
  • Anne was to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration 3 days after she disappeared.
  • It's likely that Anne was in the process of getting ready to study for her important exam when whatever happened to her occurred. (Textbooks being on the table, Along with her Cigarettes and Soda)
  • Further evidence to suggest this is Anne's slippers being left under the table. This indicates Anne might've left or been taken away barefoot.
  • Neighbors reported seeing nothing unusual the day Anne went missing.
  • There was a violent thunderstorm the same night Anne was likely abducted. (June 29th 1980)
  • On July 16th 1980, Anne's parents offered a $1,000 reward for information on where Anne might be. They later increased it to $5,000 on the 22nd.
  • Acting on a tip, Law Enforcement ended up searching a steel vat at the Lukens Steel Plant. Little information is available on this. However, No evidence was found. (A Vat is a large "pot" . More commonly called a furnace. It used to house molten metal that can be as high as 2000 (F) degrees in temperature.)

Analysis:

I have looked at this case for months. To the point where I got headaches rereading the same articles and reports over and over again. Here we go....

Could Anne have just up and left?

First thing I wanna remove off the list of possibilities is whether or not Anne walked away from her life. This is the only instance I can think of, in all the cases I have covered, where I believe the likelihood of that occurring to be a complete zero. None of the evidence supports this as a possibility. Anne was a completely stable person. She had been working extremely hard in school. She had quit her job to work on her classes full time. Which tells me she also saved up her money prior to doing this. And her money was also left at the apartment along with all her other possessions. The condition the apartment was left in indicates she was in the process of studying for her exam the next day. Her car was still at the apartment. There is no way Anne just up and walked away. None. Her psychological profile doesn't match for this to be the case. Anne was described as a stable, thorough, and meticulous person. Anne had studied at an institution of higher learning prior to enrolling at the University of Delaware. If Anne needed to, She probably could have engineered a perfect disappearance. And I know what some readers are probably saying. "Anthony aren't you talking yourself out of your own argument here? Maybe this IS her engineering her perfect disappearance." That still isn't a valid argument either. There is still no motive for Anne to leave. You can throw all the speculation in here that you want. But the facts don't support it.

I'll just say this, I believe Anne was taken against her will.

What would the motive have been?

This is the easiest part of the analysis. Her money was left behind. Her car was left behind. Nothing else was taken. Only Anne. Anne was the motive.

Could it have been someone inside the apartment complex?

Maybe. My reasons for saying so? Anne was on the 3rd Floor. You'd have to hustle her out of the apartment either through the stairwell or use the elevator and still not be seen. Which could be done if you do this maybe in the middle of the night/early morning hours. However, You'd have to either make Anne go with you willingly. Or under the threat of violence. Or she wasn't conscious/alive and you put her in something? Maybe they didn't have to go far at all. Maybe whoever did this also lived inside the complex. And simply asked her to help them with something. And/Or forced Anne into their apartment. And whatever happened occurred. But again, You have to go back to no one seeing or hearing anything. Which doesn't mean it couldn't have happened that way. Murders and Abductions have occurred in the middle of areas where many people are present and many times no one comes forward saying they saw or heard anything. You also want to take into account that there was a violent thunderstorm the same night Anne vanished. Which not only hampered the searches for Anne after she disappeared, Could've helped mask any crime taking place either inside Anne's apartment. Or inside someone else's. I think it's a possibility that someone inside the complex could've been responsible. Anne was a young and very attractive young lady. She even frequented the swimming pool at the complex. Wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility she caught someone's eye. It's definitely a possibility.

Could a murder have occurred inside Anne's apartment?

Yes, I think it could. But let's look at this for a second. If a murder did occur inside the apartment, You're taking a risk. If you're not careful you could have a mess to clean up. And you never know when someone would show up to check on Anne. Or show up to deliver a package. Or swing by for routine maintenance. You're also taking the chance that someone might hear something they shouldn't during the alteration. Remember, Her neighbors were questioned and they are on record stating they didn't hear or see anything out of the ordinary during the time in question. But again, That doesn't mean a whole lot. Especially when there was a violent thunderstorm that very night. I will point out Anne's apartment seemed to be in its normal spotless condition at the time Anne's parents arrived to check on her. But again, You also want to keep in mind that there was a 9 and a half day window before Anne was even reported missing. That's plenty of time not only to clean up an apartment. But it's plenty of time to dispose of a body as well. Do I think it occurred within Anne's apartment? Maybe? I think that if it did, The phone ringing and not being answered would've definitely spooked whoever may have been inside the apartment. Assuming they needed several days to clean up the apartment that is. I think the initial crime took place inside Anne's apartment. Whether it was a forced abduction or a murder. Her sandals being left behind are a telling clue. Wherever Anne went. She may not have needed to walk. She may have been unconscious or even dead at that point.

When did Anne go missing?

I wanna reiterate we do not know WHEN whatever happened to Anne occurred. All we have is a broad window of 9 and a half days. I am unclear at this time, With the information I have, As to when the first unanswered call was placed to Anne's apartment. If I had that. I could narrow the window of opportunity down by a little bit more. My source didn't have that information either. At least at the moment. That information was something I'm hoping to nail down at some point in the future. Having said that, I think it's safe to say whatever happened to Anne likely occurred on the 29th sometime after the call Anne received at 2 p.m. Likely around I dunno..... 3ish?

Bernard Francis Tandarich

Even though many of the news articles state Anne wasn't involved with anyone at the time, Which I believe to be the case. And her situation with Tandarich had seemed over for a while. At least on her end anyways. I think it's pretty clear Tandarich still had feelings for her and was having issues letting go. We've all been there. You wanna hang on for hope even when it's gone and you eventually come to terms with it. That's normal. What's NOT normal is putting your hands on a lady's throat and saying "If I can't have you. No one else will." That's flat out psycho dude. A normal level headed person doesn't do that. Even a heartbroken person doesn't. There is a difference between heartbroken. And insane. That's a control reaction. Not one of love. I'd like to chalk it up to immaturity on Tandarich's part but I can't. He was a month away from being 40 at that point. If anything Anne was the more mature one of the two.

A few things that stand out to me regarding Tandarich's interview.

They are as follows....

Even tho Anne had told at least 2 people that we know of that she was meeting Tandarich at 3:00 p.m. on the 29th. Tandarich states he drove over to his soon to be ex-wife's house and spent some time with his kids up until approximately 3:15 p.m. THEN he drives over to his apartment in Kennett Square to wait for her call. I am unsure of his ex-wife's address. But a simple search tells us this in terms of distance and time.....

13 Minutes not factoring in traffic.

So Tandarich would be arriving back at his apartment at around 3:30 p.m. to wait for a call for a meeting that was already planned to take place at 3:00 p.m. that day? I'm sorry. I'm not buying it. This looks as tho he is providing himself an alibi. Why would he need to wait for her to call him? Much less, Why wait to receive the call AFTER 3? Makes zero sense. UNLESS there was a change of plans at some point. And I do not believe there was. Based on the statements of the persons interviewed. Anne was dreading the meeting. And she planned on either meeting him in the parking lot or on her balcony. Which brings me to another point.....

When did Tandarich gets his possessions from Anne's apartment? Remember he had a key. Also note, Anne seemed to keep her door locked most of the time, Otherwise her parents wouldn't have been alarmed it was unlocked upon their arrival. And to branch out on that thought a little.....What possessions did he have at Anne's apartment? And more importantly would he have needed a luggage suitcase?

Let's review the basic facts of the case and see where it leads us....

  • We have a person who was involved with Anne at one point. One who had been physically aggressive with her in one instance.
  • A person who Anne was scheduled to meet with the very day she ended up disappearing.
  • This person had a key to Anne's apartment. (As well as possessions inside at one point in time)
  • Nothing was taken from Anne's apartment except her. Her money was there. Her car was there. Everything was there. The only thing missing was Anne.
Looks as if Tandarich was right after all. If he couldn't have Anne. No one else was going to either.

Final Word

Being in True Crime as long as I have. I know how it works. The good and the bad. I also know what will happen after this entry makes its rounds. All the greedy YouTubers and Podcasters will chop this entry up. And make their own videos and podcast episodes out of Anne's case. And some will even act like they are the first to bring you this information. Most will act as though they did all this research themselves. They'll avoid giving me any due credit for the research or writing I did for this entry. Or the info I am trusted with. Any Podcaster or YouTuber or even Blogger who reads this entry. I ask you to have some humility. And credit me for my work. It isn't hard.

Also, All you "gatekeepers" out there. You know who you are. The ones who believe they "own" the cases they either profile. Or the cases in the state they happen to live in. The ones who refuse to work with people who actually want to help. Thank you. It's your actions and your behavior that provided me with this opportunity. It was mostly due to my past work and my attention to detail. However, People pay attention to effort. Wise up.

Until next time...

This article has an incorrect statement. Anne's "boyfriend" who she was broke up with at the time of her disappearance, worked for Lukens Steel. Not the Claymont. Anne had worked for Claymont when it was Phoenix Steel.
